  • Judo in Shanghai
Can anyone recommend a judo club for me in Shanghai? I just moved here and I'm looking for a place to train. I tried to contact the people at ryushinkan but got no response :(

    Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Gill and Jukado gis
So I'm looking for a new gi, and I've come across Jukado and Gill gi's. They're on Jukado.com and I'm into the Gill coach, because I'm looking for a lighter uniform. I'm curious if anyone has tried them and knows how they fit and the shrinkage. I'm 6 ft. tall, 165 lbs, with long limbs (tall and lanky). Mizuno's hardly ever fit me (except my friends new Yusho 3.5 fit me surprisingly ok in sleeve length, but before any shrinking), and the only one that has is a Fushida icon 4 slim fit(and I'm more than likely going to wait for Christo to re-up on some Tournament gis). I've heard Gill's shrink, but I have no experience with either, and any advice would help a ton.

  • Classify this technique from grand slam 2013
How would you guys classify this technique in this video? Its like an o-soto-gari, except hooking the inside of the leg instead. Ko-soto-gake perhaps?

  • Good in newaza, bad in newaza randori?
Hello my friends, I have a bit of a problem. In shiai I have won many times by newaza strangle or armlock (just saying), and I have begun to feel like a bit of a specialist. The problem is that for me this skill set does not particularly transfer well into newaza randori in practice when you start from knees/backs. I can easily lose to shodans and even sankyus when starting from knees in a more bjj style progression, usually due to the wild scrambles that occur. This would not be a huge problem, as at least I'm winning competition; however I feel like my judo is not well rounded, and all of my newaza is strictly against unsuspecting opponents. So my question is if anyone else can relate, or maybe you are opposite of me, where your newaza doesn't transfer to shiai? Does anyone else feel as if it's two different styles of newaza? and practicing one may not benefit the other. How do you find an equilibrium between the focuses?
